Obverse/Reverse Designs:The artisans of the United States Mint have captured the grace and elegance of sculptor/engraver Adolph A. Weinmans celebrated "Walking Liberty" design. The obverse design features an ever hopeful Liberty striding confidently toward the sunrise, draped in the strength of the Stars and Stripes carrying in her arms branches of laurel and oak to symbolize both civil and military glory. The reverse design, by United States Mint sculptor John Mercanti, features a striking heraldic eagle with shield, and olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left. The rating of "Mint State 69" is determined by PCGS based on the Sheldon scale. In 1948, Dr. William Sheldon, a renowned numismatist, developed this grading scale for coins. Points are deducted from 70 for each flaw or imperfection on a coin's surface. A Proof or Mint State 70 is thus the highest grade a coin can achieve, meaning there are no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification. All information pertaining to the coin, including its rating and identification number, both assigned by PCGS, is contained in a unique bar code that appears underneath the written text of the coin's label. About American Eagle Coins:American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins are struck on specially burnished blanks.
